Beverly Kay Woodford (Schooley), 80, Charleston, SC died June 6, 2024, in memory care. She was born August 23, 1943, in Indianapolis, IN the only child of Ralph Elza Schooley and Martha Elizabeth (Brouhard) Schooley. She graduated in 1961 from Southport High School in Indianapolis, and from Indiana Business College in 1962. Bev married Frederick Erwin Woodford of Indianapolis, Indiana on November 4, 1961, in Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by Fred in December 2006 and by both parents.
She was employed in Indianapolis by Allison Transmission from 1961 to 1967 and by Purdue University in administration in West Lafayette from 1967-1969. Returning to Indianapolis, she was employed through various secretarial pools and appointments, including Dow Elanco, Eli Lilly & Co, Bank One, and Melvin Simon & Associates. She then worked for the US Federal Government, first in Indianapolis with the IRS in Taxpayer Service and then in Topeka, KS through the National Park Service at the Brown vs Board of Education National Historic Site, and then at the Colmery O’Neil Veterans Administration Medical Center until her retirement in 2006.
Mrs. Woodford was a long-time member of Topeka Bible Church, Topeka, KS. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara W. Stapleton and Michael D. Stapleton (Charleston, SC and Topeka, KS); and two grandchildren, Connor D. and Corinne E. Stapleton. Memorial contributions may be made to Cair Paravel Latin School, 635 SW Clay St, Topeka, KS 66606 through www.cpls.org for the Scholarship Fund. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, with visitation preceding from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel. The burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Indianapolis
